The Village is located in an ideal spot – situated directly across the road from the University of Melbourne, and only a short 12 minute walk to the heart of the City.

There are buses and trams on the doorstep that will take you where you need to go when you’re not at uni.

As a Study Abroad and Exchange student you will enjoy the comfort of your own room in a modern, stylishly fitted two bedroom studio apartment.

For your convenience, these apartments are fitted out with crockery and cutlery kits and linen packs as part of your package. So you won’t have the bother of having to shop for basic household items, and will be able to settle right into making friends and finding out more about the local environment.

Making friends has never been easier.

Our Student Life programme, run by the Village Residential Assistants, will have you involved in social, sporting and cultural activities from day one. The Residential Assistants are students who live at the Village themselves and who are there to offer friendship and support during your stay.

Through the Student Life Programme you will have opportunities to meet Australian students living at the Village, as well as other international students.

The Village Resource Centre is fully equipped with computers and high speed broadband internet access to help you keep up with your studies. If you are bringing a laptop with you, you will find direct access to broadband is available in each room.

Wireless internet is also available in places throughout the Village – a great option if you feel like doing some research by the pool on a warm day!

RMIT Village Old Melbourne is part of the Campus Living Villages (clv) group. Clv owns and operates student accommodation facilities on university campuses across Australia and New Zealand.

As part of an initiative first introduced in 2007, you will be entitled to take up a special offer, available only to University of Melbourne or RMIT University Study Abroad or Exchange students at RMIT Village.

We know that students who have come to Australia for a short time are often keen to see more of the country. Study Abroad students also pay for a 6 month period, but might not stay in their accommodation for that full period, depending on their academic schedule.

In recognition of this, we offer you the opportunity to use any ‘unused portion’ (maximum of 2 weeks) of your stay, that you have already paid for as part of your package at RMIT Village, at one of our other Villages.

This means that you can use up to 2 weeks at any other CLV Village in Australia or New Zealand (subject to availability) during your RMIT Village contract term, but outside of the academic year. Ie for Semester 1 in 2010 between Jan 1st and Feb 21st and in Semester 2 between Dec 9th and Dec 31st.

You must let us know on application if you would like to take up this offer.

the package

RMIT Village Old Melbourne offers a unique and comprehensive accommodation package to all Study Abroad and Exchange students and their providers.

The Study Abroad and Exchange (SAEX) Package per student for 2010 is:

• AUD $6,853.00 for the six month period (or $ AUD $263.58 per week)

In a nutshell your package will include:

• Fully furnished room in a two bedroom studio apartment
• Bedding and bathroom kit (inc. 2 sheets, 2 polar fleece blankets, pillow, pillow slip, bath towel, bath mat and hand towel)
• Crockery / cutlery (inc. dinner plate, microwave containers, bowl, fork, knife, spoons, vegetable peeler, glass, mug and side plate)
• Cooking utensils including pots and pans, chopping board, wooden spoon, potato masher, egg-flip, tongs, colander, can-opener, kettle and toaster
• Cleaning utensils including tea-towel, dustpan, brush, toilet brush and holder and small waste bin
• Utility fee
• Phone and Data line (extra charges apply for usage)

Refundable Bond & Payment Terms:

• A bond of AUD$750 is payable. This bond is lodged with the Residential Tenancy Bond Authority, and is fully refundable at the end of the contract period, subject to payment by the resident of any outstanding extras, like phone charges, and an apartment inspection by the Facilities Manager of the Village.
• Payment of the Bond (AUD$750) + 2 Weeks’ rent in advance (AUD$527) + phone connection (AUD$55) + departure clean (AUD$55) + bedding and equipment fees (AUD$399) confirms the contract.
• Rent is paid fortnightly in advance, however Study Abroad / Exchange students have the option to pay the total semester’s rent up front if desired.   

Study Abroad Student move in /move out dates shall be:

• 1st January – 30th June 2010
• 1st July – 31st December 2010
